The News At Tenuosity

Published: 04/09/2010 16:33:32

Dear Newsletter Subscribers,

Last month saw a record equalling number of TLog entries posted to Tenuous Links. Twenty-seven TLog entries were posted in August, which matched the previous high we saw in November 2009.  Consequently, we thought we’d take a slightly different slant for the theme of this newsletter and turn our gaze a little more inward this month.  For those of you who don’t know TLogs are Tenuous Links blogs.  TLogs were introduced to provide an additional channel for you to tell the world about great websites that there is out there, but we don’t mind what they are used for as long as it’s legal and clean.

In this newsletter:

TLogging for Beginners

TLogging is the phenomenon that is sweeping the internet.  More than ten members of Tenuous Links irregularly TLog, with some of these such a  Mel Small, Teessider and Something for the Weekend being the same person with severe multiple personality issues. If you've not started TLogging yet the time is now!  As we have said, legality and decency aside, there are no limits to what you can use TLogs for.  You can post a review of your favourite restaurant, a critique of the latest blockbuster movie, or, as we have shamelessly done with Stable Whisper and RoofOfThe.net, you can use them to promote your website.

If you clever enough you might also be able to make a bit of cash from TLogs.  Merchants such as Amazon Add Amazon to your favourites and networks such as Affiliate Window Add Affiliate Window to your favourites run affiliate marketing programs and if you embed the links they provide into your TLog and send some traffic theire way that ultimately results in them making a purchase, then you take a cut. For example you may TLog an album review and include a deep link to that album on Play.com Add Play.com to your favourites, i.e. Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band was The Beatles seminal work ... etc.

So why not get TLogging now and help us to beat the record number of TLogs this month.

A Tenuously Interesting Thing

The Tenuously Interesting Think this week comes from SFTW’s TLog of 30th May.  The Penny Farthing is a modern day version of the legendary two-wheeler of yesteryear.  With a 32”  wheel the front and a 12” one at the back the new version of this classic maintains the look of the original.  You still find yourself sitting a lot higher a regular bike, however the manufactures have made some concessions to comfort and safety including pneumatic tyres, a sprung saddle and a brake on the rear wheel.

New to the Directory

As usual the Tenuous Links Website Directory saw some excellent addition in August.  The magnificent seven we have chosen to highlight here include national institutions such as Sainsbury’s Add Sainsburys to your favourites and National Express Add National Express to your favourites, along with up and coming online services such as Cumbrian Cottages Add Cumbrian Cottages to your favourites, that provide over 900 self catering cottages in the Lake District.

Sites suggested my site members this month included Flat Flat Add Flat Flat to your favourites, a property rental site submitted by Darren Stall and Berend Murphy’s suggestion Travel Diamonds Add Travel Diamonds to your favourites.

If your lawn is looking a bit shabby you might like to take a look at the service provided by Green Thumb Add Green Thumb to your favourites, and finally, and we must declare an interest here, there was Stable Whisper Add Stable Whisper to your favourites, a horseracing news service focusing on the sport of the kings as practiced in the UK.

If we’ve missed a great site then please let us know.

Why not help to keep the identity of Top Gear’s The Stig secret by claiming to be him yourself, in the same way Tony Curtis did in Spartacus.
