What is Tenuous Links?
A social networking site that aims to provide the best elements of social networking, whilst at the same time shunning the more frivolous aspects. It is not the popularity contest of some social networking sites, but rather a series of tools to enhance our users online experience.

What plans do you have for the future development of Tenuous Links?
The plans for future development of TL are quite fluid, however we do have an ultimate goal to become one of the web's foremost social networking sites. Here at TL we want the socialising to be at the benefit of every single member, without cliques. We certainly don't want it to a develop into the popularity contests that are ******** and *******, and come to think of it ******.

What regions does Tenuous Links serve?
TL serves the whole world and tenuouslinks.net displays lists English language sites we from around the web. If you live in the UK or the United States you can view location specific content at tenuouslinks.co.uk or tenuouslinks.com respectively. At present we do not list many sites that include content in a language other than English.

Why haven't I received a newsletter yet?
We have not developed the functionality for distbuting newsletters yet. This is planned for future phase. Please don't let this stop you signing up.

Do you recommending the products and services of the sites you link to?
We give no endorsement to sites we link to and are not liable for your use of them. We do not guarantee or warranty any of the content, products and services provided by any of the external internet sites that we link to. We accept no liability for your use of external sites.

Does Tenuous Links make any money?
TL generates a modest income from the various banners and adverts you will see in various areas of the site. Currently all income is reinvested in the running and developement of TL. In addition to this some sites we affiliate with are listed in our directory. These sites,notated with a *, generate an income for TL if you click through to them and subsequently go on to make a purchase.


How are sites in the directory rated?
Sites are rated with respect to our five key factors of aesthetic, usability, speed, quality of service and originality.

None. We no responsibility for the accuracy of any of the content of this site and make no warranty to the level of service provided by this site or any of the products and services included on it.

What is "Your Tenuous Links" ?
"Your Tenuous Links" is the member area of the site. Amongst other things, it allows you to create a personalised view of our website. If you come across a TLink you like, you can store this by clicking on the Add favourite TLink symbol symbol displayed next to it. Please note this requires a membership registration which is takes hardly any time at all.

A TLink is the name we give to a link to another website.

The brackets act as a warning to indicate that you will need to sign in to view this area of the directory.

Can I update the copy of my site listing?
You can edit the copy [description] of the site listings you have submitted, by registering as a member. In order that we can associate you with the site you added, you must register using the email address that you used at the time of the listing request. Note that we reserve the right to edit this copy.

Can tenuous linking be blocked?
You can block people who have tenuously linked to you by signing on and clicking "You're Linked by". Users can be blocked by clicking the [x] symbols shown against each member linking to you.

How do I delete the website address on my profile?
Click "Your Tenuous Links"
Enter your log on details
Click "Your Profile"
Click "Update Your Profile"
Delete the website address
Click "Save your Profile"


How do I store my favourite Tenuous Links?
Members of TL can store their favourite TLinks in "Your Tenuous Links" by finding a site they like in the directory, and clicking on the Add favourite TLink symbol symbol displayed next to it. If you have not already done so, you will be asked to sign in. Note this requires membership registration.

How do I tenuously link to someone?
You can to tenuously link to someone from their hub page. The hyperlinks against TLogs, TLitters and various other content on the site will take you to the associated member's hub page.

What is a hub page?
Each member of Tenuous Links has a hub page. The hyperlinks against TLogs, TLitters and various other content on the site will take you to the associated member's hub page. You can also access a member's hub page by appending a slash and their username in lowercase after any of the various Tenuous Links URLs (website addresses), for example www.tenuouslinks.co.uk/webmaster

What is tenuous linking?
Tenuous linking is the linking between two members of Tenuous Links. Tenuously linking to someone will allow you to follow their activity on the site, including their favourite linking, their tenuous linking to other members, and any TLitter messages (microblogs) they post. You will also be able to send messages and whispers to those you are tenuously linked to.

Why do I need to register?
Members of TL are rewarded for their patronage with extra functionality and features that are not available to casual visitors. This includes a facility to bookmark your favourite tenuous links, to write a TLog (Tenuous Links Blog) and to microblog using out TLitter facility. In addition to this you we gain access to additional areas of the TL directory, and be able to update the copy for the links that you have submitted to it.


Can I come and work for Tenuous Links?
TL are not hiring at present.

Can I get a premium listing for my site?
TL does not offer premium listings. Premium listings would appose our philosophy of making TL listings a truly merit-oriented affair.

Can I have my site listing moved to the top of the directory page?
TL is a meritocracy and consequently we can not raise the profile of your site by bumping it up our listings. However, please let us know if you make any enhancements or improvements to your website and we will review our five key factor ratings.

Can I advertise on Tenuous Links?
The adverts on TL are generally are arranged via affiliate networks such as Affiliate Window and TradeDoubler. However, we also open to ad hoc advertisment listings. for more details click here.

What is TLog subscription?
People that subscribe to you TLog will recieve an email each time you post a new entry to you TLog. These emails will contaion a link that takes then directly to this TLog entry.

What is a TLog?
A TLog is a Tenuous Links Blog. TLogs were introduced to allow give our members another channel to tell the world about the great sites on the world wide web. These may be sites they regularly visit, sites they have created themselves or sites that support their personal business ventures. TLogs however can be used for whatever, as long as the content is clean and legal.

How do I message/whisper someone?
You can send someone a message or whisper from their personal TLitter line. This is accessed from either the a stats section on this users hub page or using "reply" link shown with each users messages on each of the various TLitter lines.

What is TLitter?
TLitter (the T is silent) is a microblog of significant events or interactions occurring on Tenuous Links. These include member registrations, TLog entry, newsletter and press release publications, and the addition of new links to the directory. You can also user TLitter to post microblog messages and to send messages to other members of the site that you are tenuously linked to.


What is a broadcast?
A broadcast is a message that can be seen be everyone (members and non-members) on the main TLitter event line. The main TLitter line can be accessed from the header navigation on every page of the site so you messages are only one click away from the WWWeb.

What is a whisper?
A whisper is a message between two tenuously linked members of the site that only the these members can see. You can view you whispers by signing in and clicking "Your TLitter".

Can I access old cartoon strips?
Not yet. An archive of Captain Technology cartoon strips is planned for a future phase of TL development.
