First Published: 24/05/2011 13:38:19

The character of Mick Dundee, as portrayed by Paul Hogan in the films Crocodile Dundee, Crocodile Dundee II and the other one that nobody watched, was based on a real-life individual called Archie Argyle. As a small child Archie was carried off into the bush by a dingo and raised as part of the pack until the age of six when he was rescued by an aboriginal family. It's said that Archie could communicate with animals and when he returned to civilisation in 1927 he went on to run a sheep farm in Western Australia that used dingoes rather than more traditional sheep dogs.

In 1935 Archie inherited the title of the Earl of Argyle and went on to use is sheep farming skills to create the world famous Argyle clothing company.
